Allspace anti-vandal changing rooms, showers and toilets make new all-weather sports pitches complete in village of Stepaside

When Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council decided to build new all-weather pitches for soccer and Gaelic football in thevillage of Stepaside, it also needed to install high-quality changing rooms, showers and toile t facilities for the players. As this was an exposed site, the facilities needed to be secure and vandal-proof to protect them from damage and theft.

Eoin O’Brien, Assistant Parks Superintendent at Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, says: “We’d hired a building from Allspace in the past and found the company very good to work with. We knew they offered just the sort of building we needed for our changing rooms at Stepaside, so they were the first company I called.”

During discussions between the council and Allspace it emerged that providing the three-phase power supply required to fit electric showers in the changing rooms at the site would prove prohibitively expensive. As a solution, Allspace recommended fitting gas-powered showers, which use propane gas – considerably reducing the buildings’ electricity requirements.

The council was delighted with this solution and ordered two changing room buildings with showers and a separate toilet block. Hiring the buildings was a perfect way for the council to spread the cost of acquiring these essential facilities over a long-term contract, avoiding the need for any major up-front capital expenditure.

All three buildings were robust, galvanised steel structures, providing secure, corrosion-resistant and anti-vandal facilities – ideal for the new Stepaside sports pitches. The 27m² changing room buildings each featured three gas-powered showers, washbasins and a large changing area with bench seating and coat hooks. 

The buildings were delivered right on schedule by Allspace and craned into position. They were supplied fully fitted out, ready for connection to mains power and water services. That meant the buildings were quickly ready for use, well ahead of the official opening date for the new pitches.

Allspace has a Customer Charter which promises that all buildings will be delivered on time and on budget. It even promises that if the company ever fails to deliver on time, it will provide a week’s free hire for every day it is late.*
