Ireland’s National Ploughing Championship was a bigger event than ever in 2006. Incorporating the World Ploughing Championships, it was extended to four days from its usual three. Held in County Carlow, the entire showground had to be built up from scratch on a greenfield site, with water supplies, electricity, track ways, marquees and many other facilities being installed for the expected 1,000 exhibitors and 200,000 visitors.

With such a prestigious event to stage and so many visitors to cater for, the National Ploughing Association knew that providing the right number and standard of toilets was of paramount importance.

Chairperson Anna May McHugh says: “It’s impossible to overstate how important the toilet facilities are. At previous events we have always had complaints about the toilets, so we knew we needed to improve. That’s when Allspace approached us and offered to help out.”

Allspace worked closely with the National Ploughing Association to specify just the right facilities for the event. Its specialists recommended high-quality buildings with full-flushing toilets and washbasins, which could be plumbed in to the mains water supply and drainage.

For the event, Allspace provided 12 toilet blocks, plus a VIP toilet facility located next to the National Ploughing Association’s show headquarters. The company even installed a toilet block in the days leading up to the event, for use by site workers setting up the show.

Allspace worked closely with the site engineers to select optimum locations for the toilet blocks. All of the buildings were delivered on time and installed efficiently by Allspace at key points around the showground, with access steps where necessary.

Anna says: “We were extremely happy with the quality of toilets supplied by Allspace and feel confident that we provided the best facilities available for our visitors. I’m delighted to say that this year we have not received a single complaint about the standard of toilets, which is quite an achievement when you consider the huge number of visitors.

“At an event of this size, you rely very much on your suppliers doing what they promise, and doing it on time. Allspace did precisely that – and we’ll certainly use them again next year.
